About CTET – What Is the Central Teacher Eligibility Test?

CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is a national-level teacher eligibility test conducted by CBSE. It is mandatory for candidates who want to teach in Central Government schools from Class I to Class VIII. These include Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS), Tibetan Schools, and other Central Government-run schools.

  • CTET is conducted in two papers:
    • Paper-I: For candidates who wish to teach Classes I to V (Primary Stage)
    • Paper-II: For candidates who wish to teach Classes VI to VIII (Elementary Stage)
  • A candidate wishing to teach both levels must appear in both Paper-I and Paper-II.
  • CTET Certificate is valid for lifetime (as per NCTE guidelines updated in 2021).
  • CTET September 2026 is the 22nd Edition of this exam.

Eligibility Criteria – CTET September 2026

Note: The detailed eligibility criteria will be published in the official Information Bulletin on ctet.nic.in. General NCTE-prescribed eligibility is as follows:

For Paper-I (Classes I to V – Primary Stage)

  • Senior Secondary (Class XII) or equivalent with at least 50% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) (final year candidates may also apply)
  • OR Senior Secondary with at least 45% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (as per NCTE norms)
  • OR Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks AND 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)
  • OR Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
  • OR Graduation AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education

For Paper-II (Classes VI to VIII – Elementary Stage)

  • Graduation AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) (final year candidates may also apply)
  • OR Graduation with at least 50% marks AND 1-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)
  • OR Graduation with at least 45% marks AND 1-year B.Ed. (as per NCTE norms)

  2. Read the Information Bulletin carefully, including eligibility criteria, syllabus, fee structure, and all important instructions before applying.
  3. Click on the online application link available on the CTET website and register by filling in your basic details.
  4. Fill in the complete online application form with personal, educational, and other required details accurately.
  5. Upload your recent passport-size photograph and signature in the prescribed format and size as mentioned in the Information Bulletin.
  6. Select the paper you wish to appear for – Paper-I (for Classes I to V), Paper-II (for Classes VI to VIII), or both.
  7. Pay the examination fee online through Debit Card, Credit Card, or Net Banking on or before 10 June 2026 (23:59 hrs).
