About CSIR UGC NET June 2026 Exam

Joint CSIR-UGC NET is a national eligibility test conducted twice a year by NTA on behalf of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and University Grants Commission (UGC). The test determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for three purposes:

  • Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
  • Appointment as Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges

Note: Candidates qualifying under Category 2 and 3 can use CSIR UGC NET marks (70% weightage) as an entrance test for Ph.D. admission. The remaining 30% weightage is based on the interview conducted by the respective university. The marks are valid for one year from the date of result for Ph.D. admission purposes.

JRF Stipend Details

  • JRF Stipend (First 2 Years): Rs. 37,000 per month
  • Annual Contingent Grant: Rs. 20,000 per year (paid directly to fellow)
  • SRF Stipend (After 2 years as JRF + Ph.D. registration): Rs. 42,000 per month
  • Upgradation from JRF to SRF is subject to assessment by an Expert Committee.
  • Fellowship award is for a fixed tenure and does not guarantee any employment.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • General / EWS candidates: Master's Degree or equivalent with minimum 55% marks (without rounding off) from a recognized university.
  • OBC-NCL / SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender candidates: Minimum 50% marks in Master's Degree or equivalent.
  • Candidates appearing in the final year of their Master's Degree can also apply provisionally. They must complete their degree within two years from the CSIR UGC NET result date (one year if qualifying under Category 3 only).
  • Candidates with a 4-year / 8-semester Bachelor's Degree with minimum 75% marks (70% for reserved categories) can apply for JRF and Ph.D. admission. They will NOT be eligible for Assistant Professor appointment.
  • Ph.D. degree holders whose Master's level exam was completed by 19 September 1991 are eligible for a 5% relaxation (55% reduced to 50%).

Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The CSIR UGC NET June 2026 paper has three parts (A, B, C). All questions are Objective Type MCQs. The paper is bilingual (Hindi and English). Total marks are 200 for all subjects. Duration is 180 minutes (3 hours).

About Each Part

  • Part A: Common to all subjects. Contains general aptitude questions - logical reasoning, graphical analysis, numerical ability, quantitative comparison, series, puzzles, etc.
  • Part B: Subject-related conventional MCQs covering topics in the syllabus.
  • Part C: Higher-order questions testing application of scientific concepts and analytical ability. In Mathematical Sciences Part C, questions may have ONE or MORE correct options.

Result and Cut Off

  • NTA will display recorded responses and provisional answer key on the website before the result.
  • Candidates can challenge the provisional answer key by paying Rs. 200 per question (non-refundable).
  • Result will be declared based on the final answer key.
  • Minimum benchmark marks required:
    • General / EWS / OBC: 33% of total marks
    • SC / ST / PwD / PwBD: 25% of total marks
  • No separate cut-off for Part A, B, and C. Cumulative marks of all parts are considered.
  • No re-evaluation or re-checking of result is allowed.
  • Score card will show total percentile score and marks.

How to Apply for CSIR UGC NET June 2026

Follow these steps to complete the CSIR UGC NET June 2026 online application process:

  1. Visit Official Website: Go to the official NTA CSIR NET website at csirnet.nta.nic.in and read the Information Bulletin carefully before starting the application process.
  2. New Registration: Click on New Registration and fill in your basic details including your name (as in Class 10 certificate), date of birth, mobile number, and email ID. Note down the system-generated Application Number.
  3. Fill Application Form: Login with your Application Number and password. Fill the complete application form with personal details, educational qualification, subject choice, category, disability details (if applicable), and select four exam city choices.

Facilities for PwD/PwBD Candidates

  • Candidates with benchmark disability (40% or more) are eligible for scribe/reader/lab assistant facility.
  • Candidates with less than 40% disability but having difficulty in writing can also get a scribe on production of a certificate from a competent medical authority.
  • Compensatory time of minimum 20 minutes per hour is provided to candidates using a scribe.
  • NTA provides a scribe if requested; candidates can also bring their own scribe (qualification one step below the candidate).

General Instructions for Candidates

  • Candidates must bring the printed Admit Card and a valid government photo ID to the exam centre.
