BHEL Artisan Grade IV Online Form 2026 - 660 Vacancies

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has published Advt. 01/2026 inviting applications for Artisan Grade IV posts, and the BHEL Artisan Grade IV online form 2026 will be open from 21 October 2026 to 18 November 2026. The company titles the notification "Artisan Recruitment - 2027" and lists a tentative requirement of 660 posts in seven trades, spread over nine manufacturing units in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

This article walks through the vacancies unit by unit, the qualification and age rules, the pay, the two-stage selection and the steps to apply, so you can decide before you fill the form.

Candidates selected as Artisan Grade IV must serve at their allocated Manufacturing Unit for at least 20 years from the date of joining. No request for transfer or change of place of posting will be entertained during the first twenty years of service.

If a selected candidate later asks for a transfer back to a unit of their preference for unavoidable personal reasons, it can be considered only if a suitable position is available, and it will be on reversion to the original post on which the person was absorbed in the company. Since this affects where you will live and work for a very long time, choose your unit only after thinking it through.

Posts for Dependents of Deceased Employees

As per company policy, some Artisan Grade IV vacancies are partially earmarked for dependents of deceased BHEL employees on compassionate grounds. Details on who can apply under this category are given under the "Compassionate Consideration" link on the BHEL careers website. If these posts remain unfilled for want of qualified candidates, they may be filled through open selection.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

The qualification is counted as on 1 October 2026. A candidate needs all three of the following in the respective trade:

  • Class 10
  • National Trade Certificate (NTC or ITI)
  • National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC)

The minimum marks are 60 percent for General and OBC candidates and 55 percent for SC and ST candidates, in both NTC or ITI and NAC. Knowing the regional language is desirable for the units in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, and knowing Hindi is desirable for the other units.

A few conditions apply to the qualification:

  • Certificates or marksheets for ITI and NAC must have been issued up to 1 October 2026.
  • Only full time regular courses are considered.
  • The NAC, where applicable, must be issued by the concerned authority.
  • Ex-Servicemen claiming equivalence must produce a copy of the equivalence certificate. The minimum marks are not required for Ex-Servicemen claiming trade equivalency from an Army, Air Force or Naval institute certificate.
  • SC, ST and PwBD candidates applying against a post not reserved for their category are considered under the general standard of merit, with no relaxation in the minimum percentage of marks.

Who Cannot Apply

Candidates who have already been selected or engaged as Temporary Employees, or for any other post, and are presently not regularized or on probation in BHEL, are not eligible, and their candidature will not be considered.

Posts Open to Persons with Disabilities

The Artisan Grade IV post is identified for the following benchmark disabilities. It is not identified as suitable for blindness.

  • Orthopaedic (OH): locomotor disability (BL or OL), where BL is allowed only for Electrician or Fitter, along with leprosy cured, dwarfism and acid attack victims
  • Visual (VH): low vision
  • Hearing (HH): deaf and hard of hearing, and speech and language disability

A scribe facility is available for persons with benchmark disabilities in the locomotor category and any other identified benchmark disability, provided the candidate produces the original medical certificate and the physical limitation certificate at the entry to the examination centre. The format of the physical limitation certificate is available on the BHEL careers website. Only PwBD candidates with at least 40 percent of the relevant disability get the benefit of reservation.

Age Limit and Relaxations

The upper age limit is 27 years as on 1 October 2026 for General and EWS candidates. Further relaxations are as follows:

Category Relaxation
SC and ST 5 years
OBC (NCL) 3 years
Persons with Disabilities 10 years for General, 13 years for OBC (NCL), 15 years for SC and ST
Work experience Up to 7 years, with a minimum of 6 months of relevant experience
Ex-Servicemen As per extant government rules
Domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir from 1 January 1980 to 31 December 1989 5 years

The experience relaxation needs the experience to be submitted in the prescribed format, which is available on the BHEL careers website. Whatever relaxations apply to you, the maximum age including all of them cannot exceed 56 years as on 1 October 2026.

Pay and Benefits

The pay comes in two phases. For the first year, selected candidates work as Temporary Artisans on consolidated wages of Rs 24,000 per month. After this period they are regularized as Artisan Grade IV and placed at the minimum of the pay scale of Rs 29,500 - Rs 65,000, with the allowances applicable at the time of regularization. Regularization follows the company rules in force.

Candidates who were selected as Best Apprentice or Runner Up Apprentice get a different starting point, as explained in the next section.

Selection Process

Selection has two stages, and a candidate must clear both to reach the merit list. Details of the exam pattern, such as the number of questions or the syllabus, are not given in the notification, so keep an eye on the careers portal for them.

Stage I: Computer Based Examination

Every candidate appears for a Computer Based Examination (CBE) in their own trade. The exam is trilingual, and candidates can attempt it in Hindi, English or a third language of their choice among Kannada, Telugu and Tamil. All the vacancies share one exam day.

  • The CBE is marked out of 100.
  • The minimum qualifying marks are 40 percent for UR and EWS candidates and 30 percent for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC and ST candidates. Scoring below this disqualifies a candidate from the rest of the process.
  • PwD and Ex-Servicemen candidates get a relaxation, limited to 30 percent for UR and EWS and 22.5 percent for OBC, SC and ST.
  • Candidates are shortlisted for the Skill Test in order of merit in the ratio of 1:3 to the number of vacancies in their trade, as per the category-wise vacancies in their unit. Where there is a single vacancy in a trade or category, a maximum of 5 candidates are shortlisted.

For the 1:3 shortlisting, all UR candidates, together with reserved category candidates of that trade and unit who do not avail any relaxation, are first grouped and arranged by CBE marks. The Skill Test call goes to the top candidates in the UR group. Reserved category candidates who are not shortlisted there are then regrouped with their own categories and shortlisted in the same ratio.

Stage II: Document Verification and Skill Test

Shortlisted candidates first go through Document Verification to confirm eligibility, and then take a Skill Test. The Skill Test is qualifying in nature, and every shortlisted candidate must attend it to be placed on the merit list. Candidates can address the selection committee in Hindi, English or their vernacular language. After a candidate is found eligible in Document Verification and qualified in the Skill Test, the final merit order is prepared on the basis of the CBE score.

Preference for Best Apprentice and Runner Up Apprentice

Candidates who were selected as Best Apprentice or Runner Up Apprentice in the All India Skill Competitions conducted by the Directorate General of Employment and Training must apply online and upload their Certificate of Merit. They still appear for the CBE and are called for the Skill Test only if they meet the other terms and eligibility criteria. If selected, a Best Apprentice is inducted as Artisan Grade IV with 2 increments, and a Runner Up Apprentice is inducted at the minimum of the Rs 29,500 - Rs 65,000 scale.

Medical Standards

Applicants should be in sound health. Before joining, selected candidates undergo a medical examination by the company's Authorized Officer, and the appointment depends on meeting the health standards prescribed by the company. No relaxation in health standards is allowed. A brief version of the company's medical examination rules is hosted on the BHEL careers website. PwD candidates must furnish a self-attested copy of a duly stamped medical certificate for their benchmark disability from a Government Hospital or a Medical Board attached to a Special Employment Exchange for the handicapped.

Application Fee

The application fee and processing fee are non-refundable.

Category Examination Fee Processing Fee Total
UR, EWS, OBC Rs 600 Rs 400 plus GST Rs 1072
SC, ST, PWD, Ex-Servicemen Nil Rs 400 plus GST Rs 472

Depending on whether you pay through Internet banking, a debit card or a credit card, you may have to bear bank charges on top of these amounts.

How to Apply for BHEL Artisan Grade IV Recruitment

Applications are accepted online only through the BHEL careers website, and no other mode is entertained. Candidates registered with a Local Employment Exchange who meet the criteria should also apply online on the portal.

  1. Read the full notification and the instructions on the BHEL Careers Portal carefully, and confirm that you meet the eligibility conditions as on 1 October 2026.
  2. Choose your Manufacturing Unit and trade with care, because only one unit and one trade can be selected and the Computer Based Exam for all vacancies is held on the same day.
  3. Fill in the online application form and enter your name exactly as it appears in your SSC or Matriculation Certificate.
  4. Select your category carefully, because the category claimed in the application is treated as final and cannot be changed later.
  5. Choose up to 5 preferred test centres in order of your choice.
  6. If you were selected as a Best Apprentice or Runner Up Apprentice, upload your Certificate of Merit issued by the Directorate General of Employment and Training.
  7. Pay the applicable examination fee and processing fee online, and make sure the payment transaction is completed successfully.
  8. Submit the form, confirm that the submission has gone through successfully, and keep your email ID active for at least one year because BHEL sends important intimations by email.

BHEL reserves the right to add or cancel any test city or centre depending on how many candidates choose it. Details entered during online registration are final, and requests to change the mailing address, email ID, category or post will not be entertained.

Certificates to Keep Ready

Several certificates are asked for at the Document Verification and Skill Test stage, and some must meet specific date conditions. It is wise to check them before the form closes.

  • OBC (NCL): a caste certificate issued on or after 1 January 2026 in the government prescribed format, with the caste appearing in the central list of Other Backward Classes, plus a self-undertaking. OBC candidates who are not in the Non-Creamy Layer should indicate their category as General.
  • EWS: the latest Income and Asset Certificate, valid for the financial year 2026-2027 and based on income and asset verification for 2025-2026. Without it at Document Verification, a candidate will not be allowed to appear for the Skill Test.

  • Ex-Servicemen: a signed undertaking that no civil appointment has been secured before this one, and an equivalence certificate where equivalence is claimed.
  • Candidates in government service or PSUs: either apply through proper channel or submit a No Objection Certificate from the employer.
  • Work experience: the experience certificate in the prescribed format, if claiming the experience-based age relaxation.

Conditions That Can Cost You Your Candidature

  • Applications that do not conform to the advertisement, or are incomplete, will not be entertained.
  • Candidature at every stage is provisional. Receiving a roll number or Skill Test call letter does not mean BHEL has finally cleared the candidate.
  • If any ineligibility, false information or suppressed fact is found at any stage, the candidature can be rejected. If it is found after appointment, the services are liable to action including termination and prosecution.
  • If a candidate submits more than one online application, only the last submitted application is treated as final.
  • No separate communication is sent by post. Important intimations reach candidates by email.
  • BHEL can cancel, restrict, enlarge or reopen the recruitment process without notice or reason.
  • Legal disputes can be taken up only in the courts of the city where the relevant unit is located. For example, a dispute arising in Trichy falls under the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.
