Vacancy Details: Trade and Category Wise

Vacancies are earmarked for each category on an all-India basis. Candidates can apply under SC, ST, OBC, EWS or Unreserved (UR) as applicable, and there is no state-wise quota. The 17 trades carry three different ranks: Warrant Officer, Havildar and Rifleman.

Warrant Officer (Cipher) alone accounts for 124 of the 354 posts. Five trades have three or fewer vacancies, so competition in those will be sharper than the numbers suggest. The notification adds that vacancies are tentative and may increase or decrease, and the department can change the advertisement or cancel it without assigning any reason.

Reservation for Ex-Servicemen

Ten percent of the vacancies are earmarked for ex-servicemen (ESM) in all 17 trades. If suitable ESM candidates are not available, the vacancies reserved for them will be filled by non-ESM candidates of the respective categories. Service in any of the three Armed Forces, meaning the Regular Army, Navy and Air Force, is treated as ex-servicemen service.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality, Domicile and Certificates

Candidates must be citizens of India. You must submit a Domicile or Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) issued by the competent authority of your State or Union Territory, along with a Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes or Economically Weaker Section certificate if you are claiming that category. The State you mention in the online application cannot be changed later. If you try to change it at the time of Documents Verification, your candidature will be cancelled straightaway.

Your name and date of birth are accepted only as recorded in the Matriculation or Secondary Examination certificate, or an equivalent certificate. Later requests to change them will not be considered. EWS candidates need an Income and Asset certificate valid for the financial year 2025-2026, issued on the basis of income for 2024-2025, as per the DoPT office memorandum cited in the notice.

Trade-Wise Qualification and Age Limit

The qualifications below are summarised from Appendix A of the notification. The posts are open to male candidates only. Where two options are shown for a trade, either one is enough unless the notice says otherwise.

Two points deserve attention. The Cipher qualification is technical and specific, so read the exact wording in Appendix A before applying. And Mason applicants must clear a trade test as part of the qualification itself, in addition to the selection stages described later.

Age Relaxation

The upper age limit is relaxable by five years for Government servants and for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, and by three years for OBC candidates, in line with instructions issued by the Central Government. Physical Standards and Efficiency Test

Every one of the 17 trades has a Physical Standard Test (PST) and a Physical Efficiency Test (PET), and both are conducted using the RFID based system. The standards below are the figures given for male candidates. Weight must be proportionate to height and age as per the medical standard.

Candidates seeking relaxation in physical standards as members of the specified categories (Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras and Marathas) must show a certificate in the prescribed format, issued by the competent authority. ST candidates can claim the relaxation by producing a valid ST certificate when they report for PST and PET.

RFID Based Physical Efficiency Test

Male candidates from all over India except the Ladakh region must complete a 5 km run within 24 minutes. For male candidates from the Ladakh region, the requirement is a 1.6 km run within 7 minutes. Those who succeed in the RFID based PST and PET and the document check move to the next stages.

The RFID Based PST and PET will be held at Jorhat or Diphu in Assam. Reporting dates will be announced on the official Assam Rifles website after your online application is successfully submitted.

Selection Process

The recruitment moves through several filters, and clearing one does not guarantee the next. The stages, in order, are:

1. RFID Based Physical Standard Test, Physical Efficiency Test and check of documents
2. Computer Based Test (CBT)
3. Trade Skill Test
4. Documents Verification (DV) and Detailed Medical Examination (DME)
5. Review Medical Examination (RME) for candidates declared unfit in the DME
6. Merit list and call for training

Computer Based Test

The question paper carries 100 marks. The minimum qualifying marks are 35 percent for General and EWS candidates, and 33 percent for SC, ST and OBC candidates. Candidates who clear the RFID based PET and PST, document verification and the CBT are shortlisted for the Trade Skill Test.

Trade Skill Test

For Technical and Tradesman personnel, the Trade Skill Test is based on a computer test and a specific practical skill test. No marks are awarded in this test. Candidates declared pass become eligible for Documents Verification and Detailed Medical Examination. The shortlisting is done on the basis of merit in the CBT, and it will be about four times the number of vacancies (1:4 ratio) in each trade and category.

Medical Examination, Merit List and Training

The DME and RME follow the uniform guidelines for recruitment medical examination for Gazetted and Non-Gazetted Officers in the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles, issued through the MHA orders cited in the notification and amended from time to time. The RME of candidates found unfit in the DME is conducted in continuation.

Candidates who qualify in the PST, PET, CBT, Trade Skill Test and medical examination are placed in a merit list according to trade-wise and category-wise vacancies. Instructions to join the training centre are issued on the basis of this list. The notification is clear that qualifying in all tests does not by itself guarantee final selection, which depends on position in the merit list and the vacancies available in your category and trade.

Assam Rifles Serving Personnel (Departmental Candidates)

Serving Assam Rifles personnel can apply only against the vacancy advertised for their own category and only in 15 of the 17 trades: Warrant Officer (Cipher), Rifleman (Electrical Fitter Signal), Rifleman (Lineman Field), Rifleman (Armourer), Rifleman (Engineer Equipment Mechanic), Rifleman (Recovery Vehicle Mechanic), Rifleman (Electrician Motor Vehicle), Havildar (Instrument Mechanic), Rifleman (Metalsmith), Rifleman (Upholster), Rifleman Store Keeper Technical, Rifleman (Vehicle Mechanic), Rifleman (Welder), Warrant Officer (Operation Theatre Technician) and Warrant Officer (Physiotherapist). Draughtsman and Mason are not on this list.

Departmental candidates must apply for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their Commanding Officer or Officer Commanding. The NOC is issued by Col (Record), HQ DGAR, on service records, and only after written recommendation from the unit through proper channel. They must bring the NOC when they attend the RFID Based PST and PET, and they must qualify through all recruitment events. Applications that ignore this procedure will be rejected immediately on receipt.

Application Fee and Payment

The application fee for Group C posts is Rs. 100. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and ex-servicemen categories are not charged any fee. Once paid, the fee is not refunded under any circumstances and cannot be adjusted against any other expense.

In both payment options, you will have to upload a copy of the challan or receipt online. When you report for the RFID Based PST and PET, you must also produce the original copy of the payment receipt or challan, and failure to do so may lead to rejection.

Documents to Keep Ready

Reservation claims are checked at the time of reporting for the RFID Based PST and PET, so make sure your certificates are in the proper prescribed format.

Service Conditions After Selection

The notification lists several conditions that selected candidates should understand before applying:

• Selected candidates will be on probation for a period of two years.
• If an enrolled candidate withdraws from the course or resigns from the Force prematurely, the full cost of training or three months pay and allowances must be refunded.
• No Travelling Allowance or Daily Allowance is admissible for appearing in any phase of the recruitment process, and all travel, boarding and lodging expenses are borne by the candidate.
• Candidates take part in all stages, including PST, PET, CBT, Trade Skill Test and medical examinations, voluntarily. The department and Assam Rifles are not liable for injuries, illnesses, accidents or medical emergencies during these processes.
• Any dispute or legal proceeding arising out of this recruitment process falls under the exclusive territorial jurisdiction of the courts having jurisdiction over the place where the recruitment selection physically takes place.
• Pay scale and other allowances are as applicable to Assam Rifles personnel. The notification does not state pay figures.
• Compassionate ground appointment is not applicable in this rally.

Rules That Can Get Your Application Rejected

• Only one application per candidate is accepted, and multiple applications are not accepted.
• Change of category and trade is not allowed during any stage of the rally.
• A valid email ID and mobile number are mandatory. Recruitment updates are sent only by email and SMS, and the mobile number should not be on DND. Candidates are responsible if they miss information because of a wrong ID or number.
• Once the online form is submitted, corrections or modifications are not allowed. Requests by post, fax, email or by hand will not be entertained.
