Educational Qualification

  • Candidate must have passed the written and practical parts of the final MBBS Examination.
  • Candidates who have appeared or are yet to appear in the final MBBS exam may apply provisionally.
  • Provisional candidates must submit proof of passing MBBS within the time limit after result declaration.
  • Candidates who have not yet completed compulsory rotating internship are eligible to apply but will be appointed only after internship completion.

Physical and Medical Standards

Candidates must be physically and medically fit as per the standards prescribed in Appendix III of the UPSC CMS 2026 Rules. Final medical fitness will be verified at the time of appointment.

The UPSC Combined Medical Services Examination 2026 is conducted in two parts:

  • 1/3 of marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • If more than one answer is marked, it will be treated as wrong.
  • No penalty for unattempted questions.

Selection Process — UPSC CMS 2026

  • Step 1: Written Examination — Paper I and Paper II (Objective MCQ type)

How to Apply Online — UPSC CMS 2026

Candidates must apply online only through the official UPSC website. No other mode of application is accepted.

  1. Visit the official UPSC online portal at https://upsconline.nic.in using a desktop or laptop browser.
  2. Create your account on the Online Application Portal if you are a new user. This will generate your Universal Registration Number (URN) which is valid for all UPSC examinations lifelong.
  3. Fill in the Universal Registration Number (URN) Profile with your personal details including name, date of birth, category, and photo ID details. Use Aadhaar Card as the preferred ID document.
  4. Complete the Common Application Form (CAF) by uploading your scanned photograph (20 KB to 200 KB in .jpg format) and signature (20 KB to 100 KB in .jpg format). Also capture a live photograph as required.
  5. Fill in the Examination Specific Module for UPSC CMS 2026. Select your preferred examination centre, category, and post preferences.
  6. Pay the application fee of Rs. 200 online using Net Banking, Visa, Master, RuPay, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI. Female, SC, ST, and PwBD candidates are exempted from fee payment.

Important Rules — UPSC CMS 2026

  • Mobile phones and all electronic devices are strictly banned at examination venues.
  • Candidates must reach the exam venue at least 30 minutes before the start of each session.
  • Face authentication is mandatory at the examination venue for all candidates.
  • OBC candidates must submit OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate based on income for FY 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25, issued on or after 01 April 2025.
