Vacancy Filling Rules for Reserved Categories
- If SC candidates are not available, SC slots will be filled by ST candidates.
- If ST candidates are not available, ST slots will be filled by SC candidates.
- If SC/ST slots cannot be filled even then, they will be filled by Unreserved (UR) candidates.
- OBC slots that remain unfilled will be filled by UR category candidates.

Educational Qualification
- Must have passed Class 10 (Matriculation) or equivalent (under 10+2 system) with minimum 50% marks in aggregate from a recognised Board.
- Must hold a National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the notified trade issued by NCVT, OR a Provisional National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT/SCVT.
- Engineering Graduates and Diploma holders are NOT eligible to apply as they are governed by a separate Apprenticeship scheme.

Selection Process - Central Railway Apprentice Vacancy 2026
There is no written examination or interview for this recruitment. Selection is entirely merit-based:
- Merit Calculation: Simple average of percentage of marks in Matriculation (10th Class) + ITI marks in the applied trade.
- Matriculation Marks: All subjects will be considered. Marks on the basis of best of five or any group of subjects will NOT be accepted.
- ITI Marks: Average marks from consolidated statement of marks for all semesters, OR marks on the Provisional National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT/SCVT.
- Tie-Breaking Rule 1: If two candidates have equal marks, the candidate with the older age (earlier date of birth) will be preferred.
- Tie-Breaking Rule 2: If dates of birth are also same, the candidate who passed the Matriculation exam earlier will be ranked higher.
- Final Merit List: Prepared separately for each cluster/unit, trade-wise and community-wise, in descending order of marks.
- Shortlisted candidates will be called for Document Verification at their opted Division/Unit.
- A medical fitness certificate as per Annexure VII is mandatory at the time of document verification.
Training Period and Stipend
- Training Period: 1 year for all trades.
- Stipend: Rs. 9,600 per month for National or State Trade Certificate holders (as per RBE No.116/2025 dated 11/11/2025).
- Hostel: No hostel accommodation will be provided. Candidates must arrange their own stay during training.
- Employment Guarantee: Completion of apprenticeship training does NOT guarantee or create any right for absorption or employment in Railways. It is not obligatory on the part of Railway to offer employment, nor is it obligatory on the part of the apprentice to accept employment under the employer.

Important Rules and Instructions
- Candidates already undergoing apprenticeship training or who have already completed apprenticeship training anywhere should NOT apply.
- Each candidate can choose only one cluster. Once submitted, change of cluster or unit will not be allowed.

- No daily allowance, conveyance allowance, or travelling allowance will be paid for document verification.
