Educational Qualification

The minimum educational qualification for the post of Assistant Prosecution Officer is a Law Graduate (LLB) degree from any recognised university. Age Relaxation

The following additional age relaxations are applicable:

• PwBD Candidates: Maximum 10 years of additional age relaxation over and above the category-wise maximum age limit.
• Ex-Servicemen: 3 years of additional relaxation plus proportionate credit for military service rendered, provided the actual age does not exceed 57 years at the time of applying.
• Bihar Government Regular Employees: Maximum 5 years of relaxation in the prescribed upper age limit for participation in competitive examinations conducted by BPSC, but only if they have not availed a maximum of 5 such opportunities since 12.12.2022.
• State Government Employees (serving in Bihar Government): Entire service period as age relaxation for BPSC examinations, subject to the condition that the maximum upper age does not exceed 56 years.
• Candidates falling in the age bracket as per the General Administration Department letter No. 212, dated 23.01.2006 (those whose age between 01.08.2020 and 01.08.2026 falls within the upper age limit) are also eligible, provided they meet other criteria and are not retiring during the recruitment process.

Nationality

Only domicile residents (Mool Niwasi) of Bihar are entitled to the benefit of reservation. BPSC APO Syllabus and Exam Pattern 2026 – Selection Process

Paper II – Law: This paper includes questions from Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, Civil Procedure Code 1908, and Fundamental Knowledge of the Indian Constitution.

Stage 2 – Main Examination (Descriptive)

Note on Hindi and English Language Papers: Hindi Paper II and English Paper III each carry a minimum qualifying mark of 30. Main Examination Syllabus – Key Points:

• Paper I – General Studies: General Knowledge with current affairs, General Science, Indian History and Culture, Indian Polity, and Geography.
• Paper II – Hindi: Standard of Hindi as expected from candidates who have studied Hindi continuously from Class IV in Bihar Board. Tests simple Hindi comprehension, expression, and familiarity with common topics.
• Paper III – English: Tests the ability to express ideas clearly in simple English; familiarity with common topics. Standard equivalent to intermediate level.
• Papers IV to VIII (Law Papers): The level of questions for Papers IV to VIII will be equivalent to the LLB final year examination of Patna University.

Stage 3 – Interview (Viva-Voce)

The Interview carries 100 marks. Only candidates qualifying in the Main Examination with minimum prescribed marks in each paper (excluding Hindi and English papers from merit) will be called for Interview. The number of candidates called for Interview will be 3.5 times the total number of notified vacancies. Candidates must compulsorily appear in the Interview; those who do not attend will not be included in the final merit list.

The final merit list is prepared based on combined marks of the Main Examination and the Interview. In case of equal total marks, the candidate with higher Main Examination marks gets preference. If marks in the Main Examination are also equal, the older candidate is given priority. If age is also the same, the candidate with a higher position in the Devanagari alphabetical order of names is preferred.

Important: There is no provision for re-evaluation of the written examination under this advertisement.

Reservation Rules – BPSC APO 2026
